This is a version of the Okuyi mask type of the Puna-Lumbo.
Highly emphasized scarification marks divide the face and cheeks
into two areas, which is typical of the Tsangui who live on either
side of the Gabon-Republic of Congo border. Used in Dance ceremonies.

from a very hard wood with glossy black patina. The pierced pattern
on the crown of this mask recalls a tarantula, and represents the
wool cap worn by princes or high ranking personages who were responsible
for naming a rulers successor.
